COIMBATORE: About 800 school students joined hands to form human chain in the city as part of the celebrations of "National Pollution Control Day", on Tuesday.

The human chain was part of "VGM's Race to Save Earth", organized by VGM Hospital and participated by the students of Perks Higher Secondary School and Venkatalaksmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School here.

It was part of the Swachh Bharat campaign launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Gandhi Jayanthi day, V G Mohanprasad, chairman of the hospital, told reporters here.

Air and water pollution and garbage posed major challenges to a safe environment and so the hospital embarked upon a door-to-door campaign targetting low-income group houses in the city once in a month, to create awareness on personal hygiene and environmental protection, he said.
